Inspirational Statue

During our Dublin trip, I challenged the second years to write a poem about a particularly interesting statue outside Christ Church Cathedral. Saba rose to the challenge and wrote this acrostic poem:

Two sides of a coin

Juxtaposition of a man to a poor stature,
Ever-willing but powerless, and fragile.
Sickened with wounds, and crimson drops,
Underfed, Under-kept and unjust.
Somber is the pain of what’s lost.

Compelled by love, to rid man of all,
Hedonism, Heresy and doubtful thoughts.
Revered nations-across, is the
Image of the man on a wooden cross,
Sinless, serene, who freed us all.
Trapped on earth, born to fall.
